Cold-Resistant Aluminum Pressure Vacuum Breather Valve – For Aboveground Oil Storage Tanks
In high-latitude and cold-climate regions, pressure control of oil storage tanks faces far greater challenges than in temperate environments. Low temperatures, frost, strong winds, and frequent pressure fluctuations caused by thermal expansion and contraction place strict demands on tank breathing systems. The HY625X Series Pressure Vacuum Breather Valves were originally designed and developed for Russian customers under such conditions and have since been widely adopted across Russia and other northern markets.
Globally, this type of product is known by different names depending on region and industry practice. In English-speaking markets, it is commonly referred to as a Pressure Vacuum Relief Valve, Tank Breather Valve, or PV Safety Valve. In Russia and Eastern Europe, it is often described as a Tank Pressure Balancing Breather Valve. In Nordic countries and Canada, users frequently classify it as a Cold-Climate Tank Breather Valve. Despite the different names, all refer to the same essential function: maintaining safe pressure balance inside storage tanks.
The HY625X Series is typically installed at the top of the vent pipe of aboveground oil storage tanks, with a recommended installation height of approximately 4.5 meters. Under normal operating conditions, the valve remains tightly sealed to prevent unnecessary vapor loss. When internal tank pressure rises above the preset positive pressure due to temperature increase or loading operations, the pressure valve opens automatically to release vapor. When negative pressure occurs as fuel is withdrawn or temperatures drop, the vacuum valve allows fresh air to enter while the pressure valve remains closed, protecting the tank structure from deformation.
This series features an aluminum body and cap with electrophoretic coating, providing excellent corrosion resistance and long-term durability in harsh outdoor environments. The poppet is made of brass, combined with a stainless steel spring to ensure stable opening accuracy and reliable sealing performance, even under low-temperature conditions. The operating temperature range of -20°C to +60°C makes this valve especially suitable for cold-region storage facilities.
In terms of pressure settings, the HY625X Series complies with both international and Chinese domestic standards. For international markets, the positive pressure opening is set at +3 inches of water column (approximately +750 Pa). For the Chinese domestic market, the positive pressure opening is +9 inches of water column (approximately +3000 Pa). The negative pressure activation for both standards is -8 inches of water column (approximately -2000 Pa). These calibrated settings help reduce vapor loss while ensuring tank safety.
The standard configuration includes a 2-inch female BSPP or NPT threaded connection, allowing easy installation and compatibility with most aboveground storage tank systems. Before installation, it is recommended to manually cycle the poppet to ensure smooth operation after extended storage. An integrated inlet protection design helps prevent debris from entering the valve body, maintaining long-term sealing reliability.
With its cold-resistant design, robust construction, and proven performance in northern markets, the HY625X Series Pressure Vacuum Breather Valve has become a trusted pressure control solution for gas stations, oil depots, and fuel storage facilities in cold and harsh environments, delivering reliable safety and operational stability over the long term.
